I freaking love engagement sessions! It’s so much fun getting to spend some down time with my couples before the hustle and bustle of a wedding day. I always try to schedule at least 30 minutes before a session to get a drink, grab some dinner, or just hang out with my couples before sticking a camera in their face for an hour. It really helps us all get connected and I’m not your photographer anymore, I’m your third wheeling pal… with a camera.
I was lucky enough to meet Vanessa a few years ago while shooting her dads wedding to a long time family friend, so when she asked me to take her engagements I was thrilled to see her again! But I realized I didn’t know much about her, I basically met her in passing at the wedding. So I asked her and Mitchell if they wanted to meet up before their shoot and have dinner and chat so we could get to know each other.
We landed on having a picnic complete with pizza, cookies, and adult beverages. (Hint: boxed wine is actually fabulous.) So we met up at our location about an hour before we planned to shoot and spent some time being complete goofballs. We were also eaten alive by mosquitos.. but it was still a blast! 💁🏻♀️
