Still dying over this session! There was a lot of planning that went into this surprise, let me tell ya!
Michael’s sister first reached out to me on Instagram and asked how I felt about shooting a surprise proposal. To say I was a little nervous was an understatement! I was so scared I wouldn’t be able to pull it off, but we made it work! Michael booked this session for them by telling Anna it was her birthday present and she totally believed it!
We met up before the session started and grabbed some drinks and get to know each other. Little did she know we were also stalling until Michael’s sister could get there. She was coming to our session to be there to watch their new puppy for us so he could be in some shots, but not them all… But really she was there to have the ring and help us with the cues on when this whole thing was going to go down.
We had originally planned on going through the whole shoot and then heading over to a parking garage to do the deed. When we got to the original parking garage it was LOCKED! I start freaking out and wondering how the heck we were going to pull this off! (Don’t worry, the freakout was internal.) I suggested we try one other parking lot that I knew of and see what happens. Thank the LORD we made it there and were able to get to the top.
From there the cue was supposed to be that Michael would say he was thirsty, his sister would say “Oh let me go get your Gatorade” and then I would set them up in a prompt that would have Anna turned away so Michael could get down on one knee. I honestly can’t even remember how it all happened because it was so fast and there were so many tears from literally all of us! 😂 All I know is that it went perfectly and Anna was so happy/surprised!
I am so happy I got to be a part of this proposal and met these two amazing humans! In the summer of 2019 they flew me out to San Diego to shoot their wedding and it was AMAZING to see their story come full circle. Click here to see those pictures!
